Thief of Shadows - Elizabeth Hoyt I read the first book in the Maiden Lane series sometime last year, so when I saw this on netgalley, and that it was Winter Makepeace story, one of the characters I was really curious about in Wicked Intentions, I was quite excited to read this. And I wasn't disappointed. There's that saying that goes, "Still waters run deep." After reading Winter's story, I totally agree with that saying.

St. Giles is part of London, ridden with orphans, prostitutes, almost every horrible thing one can imagine. Winter the schoolmaster and manager of the orphan home and The Ghost of St. Giles lives to right the wrongs. And then there is Isabel, one of Winter's home patrons. These two are brought together by the fortune event (or misfortune, I do prefer the fortunate) when Isabel saves The Ghost from a riot, and later on when the orphan home is in danger of falling into someone else's hands. As the story advances, so does the romance between these two as well as the mystery surrounding children disappearing in the streets.

I loved Isabel's character. On the outside, she is strong, confident always sure of herself. And she is older and more sexually oriented than Winter. Then her life is revealed through her POV. This is someone who had gone through alot in her life, and is still suffering. I really sympathised with her.

I loved Winter's character as well, maybe a little too much. On the outside, he is the boring, stern schoolmaster who has dedicated his life to the children in his home. On the inside, and also when he takes the role of The Ghost, he is daring, passionate, wields swords like flash of lightning. And he is younger than Isabel, inexperienced in the matters of making love. He is also stubborn, and straighforward. Never minces his words, and oh so gentle (could see that whenever he was with Isabel)

So when these two finally got together, the scenes left me breathless. And what a happy ever after.

I'm really looking forward to Lord of Darkness, which also features a character I adored and felt sympathy for in Wicked Intentions. Yay! In the meantime, I will play catchup with the other book in the series.

Fan of well written, action packed, and scenes which leave one breathless... I recommend this series.
Dark Seraphine - KaSonndra Leigh Dark Seraphine is a wonderful story, written in Caleb's POV. And Caleb has quite a sense of humour.
Caleb has been able to see The Walker's for the longest time and he has kept it secret for a while now. As the story unfolds, we see Caleb discover who he is, and the reason why he can see the Walkers and the Dark Agents--oh these ones sent shivers scattering all over my body. The twist at the end of the story was a pleasant suprise, and I look forward to reading the next book in the Trilogy. I love a good cliffhanger and this one was a good one.
Thief - Ava March One night can change everything. At least for Lord Benjamin who is determined to find out if he prefers men, which in itself is brave of him being a Lord and everything, considering the time period. Then he meets Cavin, sexy, handsome and makes his heart race a hundred miles a minute. After spending a night together, Cavin who is also in a mission, unknowingly to Benjamin, finds it completely difficult to complete his mission and sneaks out of the room. But Fate knows how to play her cards right. Cavin discovers that during his sneakery, he had mistaken his Ben jacket for his, and has to confront to return it.

The differences in their class in society makes this an almost impossible relationship Benjamin living in his town house, servants appear just by snapping his fingers. Cavin on the other side lives on the other side of town, earning his daily bread in dubious ways. Although he has led this kind of life all his life, it hasn't tainted him. One can see the way he treats Sam, one of the boys living under Hale's roof. Like his little brother he never had. Benjamin, on the other side, is kind and generous, and will do anything for Cavin, even when Cavin feels like he doesnt deserve it.

Overall, this was a wonderful, steamy read, I look forward to reading more from Ava March, and also the Brook Street series.
Shatter Me - Tahereh Mafi Oh what a fantastic book. Read and reread, and probably will reread again. Review to come.
Improper Relations - Juliana Ross In this short story, Hannah, a widow, is portrayed as naive when it comes to the art of lovemaking. Leo on the other hand is experienced, and readily offers to demonstrate - yes demonstrate - to Hannah that whatever she has been told all along about women not supposed to enjoy themselves during sex is all wrong.

What begin as lessons driven by curiosity, soon develop deeper meaning, and create conflict for both, given that, Leo is meant to marry someone else.

The story was well written, the scenes steamy in a leave-me-breathless kind of way (a good way). All in all, this was a fantastic read. I'll be sure to check out Ms Ross books in the future..

The Carny - Brooke Moss
A kiss is just a kiss--- or is it? How powerful/memorable is a kiss? Good enough to last a few seconds, an hour, ten years...

Charlotte Davenport and Vincent Youngblood story begins with a kiss when she and her two friends visit the local carnival. The first time she meets Vincent (Vin) and the last time she sees him until ten years later.
Seasons change, and since the story is written in Charlotte's POV, we see what she went through in the last six months. Then the carnival rolls back to town, and this time with Vin. Sparks fly. They pick up from where they left off but this time as adults.
Oh, Vin. He's truly swoon-worthy, patient, and had so much weighing him down, but that didn't stop him from getting what he desired, and in my opinion, he deserved.

Vincent and Charlotte's HEA was pure bliss, after all they went through.

Ms. Moss wrote a really touching story about love, prejudices, misunderstandings, second chances at love and finally acceptance. I really enjoyed reading The Carny. I look forward to reading more from Brooke Moss

Saving Mary

Saving Mary: The Possession - Deidre Havrelock In Saving Mary, Deidre, who is half-Irish half Indian has gone through alot and seen alot growing up. Not only did spirits follow her around, have disturbing dreams, she also dealt with her dad who was alcoholic, and later on her parents divorce.

The memoir takes you on a journey from her younger years to adulthood, the strength it took going through everything happening in her life.

Deidre's vivid description, writing style draws the reader into the story. The fact that she experienced being possessed, and got enough courage to write about her experience is very commendeble. This memoir is not a light read, and I'd recommended it to the strong at heart.

Flight - Alyssa Rose Ivy First, I'd like to thank ATOMR for giving me this chance to participate in this tour.

I read Ms Ivy's Afterglow Trilogy a while back, and all I have to say Flight - a very apt title - is completely different from the author's previous series - in a very good way. I really enjoyed reading this book.

The story is written in Allison's - or Allie as the character prefers people to call her - POV. We experience her journey as she starts working at her dad's hotel in New Orleans, to when she meets this hunk - Levi. Then things take Flight from there. At the risk of saying too much, - very easy for me to do at this moment - as I just completed reading it two days ago, and haven't gotten over it, I'll stop.

I enjoyed meeting all the characters in this book, especially Levi who was cocky at first, but as I got to know him, I understood the reason why. I really loved his character. And I was torn between laughing out loud at some of the stuff that flew out of his mouth and really getting annoyed at what he said. Man, this guy is dangerous. Then there are other side characters like Jared, Levi's wingman and his temper that flares very easily, Haillie the best friend anyone would ever want, and Owen, easy going and would totally want to have him on my side. They are just as important in this story.

The author also did a great job with the descriptions. I've never been to New Orleans, but through her vivid descriptions, I could see it in my mind's eye.

One thing is for sure, with an ending like that, I' m definitely looking forward to Focus. This is an great addition to New Adult, as well as the paranormal genre.
Poughkeepsie - Debra Anastasia
Oh, wow! Just finished reading Poughkeepsie, went back and started rereading lines that I had highlighted on my kindle - all spoken by Blake. He is without doubt one of the most romantic book boyfriends I've ever read about.

This book is told in several character POVs, each character as different as the next. They are deliciously flawed and possess traits that redeem them.
The story starts of with Livia. Everyday, on her way to work at the train platform, she smiles at everyone including the homeless man and a gentleman in every sense of the word (Blake) who's always there, sitting, waiting and watching her with his Green Eyes. For Blake, Livia's smiles are everything to him. And he counts them. Every.Smile.She.Has.Ever.Bestowed.On.Him. He has totalled them up. How romantic is that?
As the story progresses we meet Blake's brothers (not blood brothers, but in my opinion stronger: bound together by their past. Beckett who is like the bad boy in all ways, gangster, and the words that tumble out of his mouth shocked me and made me laugh, at the same time. Cole the brooding and intense priest assistant with a disturbing past.
And then there is Kyle, Livia's sister who has self-esteem problems among other flaws, Mouse, Beckett's bodyguard and loves knitting and Eve a woman who seeks revenge on Beckett for destroying an important part of her life.

Ms Anastasia weaved the intricate details in the story so well, dropping in hints about the characters pasts and shedding light on why they were the way they were. Later when everything was all said and done, I understood the loyalty, love and devotion they had to one another. Fantastic. Loved the Happy Ever After. I'd have really wanted to know what happened to Beckett though.

Last paragraph:
"Livia, the luck belongs to me," he whispered. "The kindness belongs to you. One lifetime will never be enough for us."

This is truly a story about unlikely love and soulmates, overcoming fear, and following one's heart.

Thank you Basically Books for this review copy. I wouldn't have known about Poughkeepsie if it wasn't for this group.

Knee Deep - Jolene Perry What a fantastic story! So heartbreaking and real. Loving someone is easy, especially if you've known them like forever. Letting go is hard, and finally when you take a deep breath and exhale, there's that big, bright light at the end of the tunnel.

Like the previous books I've read written by Jolene Perry, this one had me turning the pages, experiencing the MCs conflicts, emotions and her life.

Ronnie and Shawn have been in love for a while now, and to Ronnie, their love is meant to last forever. Lately it seems Shawn has changed, and become more aggressive and possessive of Ronnie. On the other hand, Shawn's life isn't perfect. He works for his bad-tempered father after school. His life at home is not a peaceful one with his parents fighting like every night.

Then there is Luke, Ronnie's bestfriend who loves her, but never showed her his true feelings, that is until both take part in Romeo and Juliet. He is like a knight with some sort radar, always sensing when Ronnie needs to be rescued from very tight spots, and always from Shawn. Luke is also the kind of easy going guy who stops by your house to have a chat your parents, help with stuff. And the parents adore him. I wish I had one of like him. instead of the ones who had a habit of sneaking around in the backyard.

Being Ronnie isn't easy, and the kind of situation she finds herself in is quite a strain, and I guess emotionally confusing. It was great to see Ronnie finally stop defending Shawn after realising her love for him will never surpass his need to be possessive and his aggressiveness. I highly recommend this book, and in the process, checkout other books by Ms Perry.
Timepiece - Myra McEntire Timepiece picks up where Hourglass left off. Only this time, the story is told in a different character's point of view, one of my favourites. Kaleb. In Hourglass, he seems like this extremely goodlooking bad /tortured boy. In timepiece we see his side of the story, the reason he acts the way he does.He feels guilty for not being able to take the pain from his mother when his father dies. And now that his father was saved and pulled through time to the present, he seems to consult more with Michael than him (Kaleb)That leaves him feeling left out.

We finally get to meet the people behind the organisation Chronos when one of them appears and gives them an ultimatum to make sure they find the elusive Jack. Jack on the other side, is desperately searching for the Infinityglass which would help him go back to the past. In the meantime, since time is messed by the back and forth of time travelling, the frequency of the rips has increased.

Kaleb's voice is portrayed so well, his struggles, him falling inlove with Lily, Emerson's bestfriend - which was just awesome, and the kind of character he is: the kind of person who takes care of others first before even thinking about himself.

The pacing was perfect, the action non-stop. It was good to see Emerson and Michael around. Kaleb and Lily's romance was believable and really sweet.

Jack is still on the prowl. Look forward to reading Infinity Glass.
Zed (Zed, #1) - Stephen Herfst First of all, Thanks you Stephen and Making Connections for giving me a chance to read this book. I've never read any Zombie books, so when I saw Stephen's book offered for review, and after reading the book summary, I signed up.

Zed. He is a zombie, loves GI boots, loves to read, can count to 13, and has upgraded his shuffle to a stride, mastered it to perfection. That's what he thinks until Chase, a fiery teen girl and also a 'zee' hunter comes along and insults his stride.

Once Chase discovers Zed is not the average zombie, zed's life changes.

Zed's world is full of dangers from hunters who like to take zombies as trophies, activists, and converted zombies called Gumbies. Some work in the malls, food courts.

Chase and Zed's road trip adventure was a hilarious. To see how the relationship between the two grows, how they depend on each other for survival was a real treat.

Love zombie stories? I'd highly recommend Stephen Herfst's book. And I really look forward to reading the next book in the Zed and Chase adventure.
Bittersweet - Brooke Moss Bittersweet is one of those stories, which with just a few pages (about 95pdf),those pages tell a story about a woman who has gone through alot, and still strong, holding on.

Anna's husband left her as soon as he knew their son Bowan was autistic. After that, the full responsibility falls on Anna's shoulders. She is persistent, strong, given up most of her dreams for her child. Bowan is a sweet child, who finds his peace and becomes animated than usual in the kitchen. And then Anna meets Leo (oh, Leo *sigh*) and Bowan adores him as well, as they continue with their cooking sessions.
It was really good to see Leo, who seems to have this playboy facade, but is really soft at, how the two fall in love. How Leo falls inlove with both Anna and adore Bo. Finally Anna finds love. :) and so does Leo who went through some hard times before meeting Anna.
A wonderful novella, a fairy tale in nature. I love Brooke's writing style, and really look forward to read The Carnyher upcoming contemporary romance. Highly recommended.
Bared to You - Sylvia Day Eva and Gideon are two characters I enjoyed reading about. They are flawed, and even though at first it feels as if their relationship is based on sexual attraction, it gradually changes as they get to know each other. Each has issues, and both are possessive of the other. Eva has gone through so much in her life, and she is still struggling with the sheer weight of what happened to her years ago.
Cary, Eva's best friend also has some issues as well. So both sitck up for each other and encourage.

I am really curious to find out more about Gideon, his past. I'm definetely looking forward to the second book in the Crossfire series.
Beckoning Light: The Afterglow Trilogy - Alyssa Rose Ivy Beckoning Light is written in two POVs, Charlotte and her brother, Kevin.

Charlotte is a normal teenage girl, or so she thinks until things start happening, spurning the story forward sailing the reader through the world of Energo, a world completely different than our own, where Charlotte discovers things about her, and the nature of who and her brother are.

Kevin, first enters energo in seearch of his sister, accompanied by his uncle Monty and his best friend, Liam. - Liam's loyalty is astounding. Makes me wish I'd have a friend like him. Kevin also discovers who he is, and the power within him.
I really enjoyed reading this story from the first sentence "We were flying over Canada when the panic set in. to the last sentence "Don't worry Charlotte. No matter what everyone else sees, you will always have the afterglow." The story is suspense and romance, a wonderful combination, and enjoyed the how the descriptions were done.

Alyssa Rose Ivy did a wonderful job with Energo's worldbuilding, as well as portraying each character's traits. This is the first book in beginning a wonderful series, and I am looking forward to continue Perilous light where Beckoning Light left off.
Sword's Call (The King's Riders, #1) - C.A. Szarek I reaaaaaaally need this book!!!!
